Shipping Policy

Title and risk of loss (F.O.B. Origin, San Jose, CA). Ownership of all goods, and the risk of loss or damage to them, transfer to the Buyer at Seller’s location the moment the carrier takes possession — the sale is complete before transportation begins. From that point GateFrames arranges carriage as your agent, not as the seller-carrier: we select the carrier, tender the freight, and bill you the carrier’s exact quoted amount with no markup and no handling fee. Because that charge is a separately stated, at-cost, common-carrier delivery charge on a sale that occurs before transportation, it is not part of the taxable sale price in California, and no sales tax is charged on it.

Every shipment moves insured, at our expense. Default LTL carrier liability is a released value set by freight class — often cents per pound, which would cover a fraction of what a gate is worth. So GateFrames declares the full value of your goods to the carrier and buys cargo coverage for that amount on every shipment; the premium is inside the freight figure you were quoted at checkout, and the insured value is shown to you there.

How a transit loss is settled. GateFrames purchases that coverage in its own name and is the named insured and sole loss payee on it, because GateFrames is the party that performs the remedy. Your remedy for loss or damage in transit is against GateFrames, not against the carrier or the insurer: we repair or replace the affected part or panel, at our option, at no cost to you. You are made whole by that repair or replacement rather than by a payment. In consideration of it, you assign to GateFrames any claim you may have against the carrier or its insurer arising out of the shipment, you agree not to file, pursue, release or settle such a claim yourself, and you agree to cooperate with ours — providing the delivery receipt, photographs and documents we ask for, keeping the goods and their packaging available for inspection until the claim is resolved, and not repairing or disposing of anything before then. If you nevertheless receive any payment from a carrier or insurer for a loss GateFrames has already remedied, that payment belongs to GateFrames and you agree to remit it.

Your part is the delivery receipt. The claim depends on it, and so does our ability to repair or replace at no charge. Inspect the shipment thoroughly before you sign, note every visible or suspected concealed damage and every shortage on the receipt itself, photograph it, and email us within 48 hours of delivery. A clean signed receipt is what a carrier and an insurer both treat as proof the goods arrived intact, and it is the one thing that can defeat an otherwise valid claim.

We hold the right to change/upgrade the method of shipping after the initial checkout. Always check for damages and missing items: Please carefully inspect your order upon delivery to ensure that there are no damages or missing items. Shipping is not free. Gates and fence panels move by LTL freight, and the freight cost depends on the size and weight of the build and on your delivery address, so it is calculated at checkout and shown to you before you pay. Delivery generally takes place within 5-10 business days after your order leaves our workshop, but may take longer. Local customers may instead arrange will-call pickup at our San Jose workshop at no freight cost — email us to schedule. It is not possible to specify a specific delivery date or time, however, the freight dispatch will contact you on the day of delivery to coordinate with you. Please handle your products with care and seek assistance when unloading them, they can be very heavy. GateFrames is not responsible for any damages or missing pieces once the Proof of Delivery receipt has been signed. Please do not sign the receipt until you have thoroughly unpacked, inspected, and verified that there are no visible or concealed damages. GateFrames is not responsible for any delivery logistics after the products leave our workshop. If the shipping destination requires a truck lift-gate or other accessorial charges, these will be your responsibility. Even with a lift-gate, large gates may require multiple to move them. If your location has limited access (like a small mountain road or very congested area) you may be responsible for additional charges demanded by the shipping carrier. If you have a preferred LTL freight carrier, please let us know before you receive tracking information. Some hardware and accessories may be shipped separately and may arrive earlier or later than the gate and fence panels. Please also ensure that the products you receive are exactly what you ordered, and double-check that all dimensions are correct prior to installation.

Return Policy

Per-listing return windows: every listing publishes its own return-window length and policy copy on its detail page. The site-wide default below applies whenever a listing does not specify otherwise. The exact return window for an item is shown on its product page.

Contact us anytime about returns: At GateFrames, customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us. If you are not satisfied with your product, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are committed to providing excellent customer service and stand behind all of our products. Our gates are crafted by skilled artisans and undergo thorough quality checks prior to shipping. Site-wide default return window: 30 days from delivery, unless the listing specifies otherwise. All items must be unused, uninstalled, and in original condition when returned by the purchaser within the listed timeframe. Products cannot be returned after they have been attempted to be installed. Automation products cannot be returned once their boxes have been opened. GateFrames is not responsible for any damages that occur during installation. We reserve the right to examine all returned goods for damage before issuing a refund. Please note that shipping and expedition costs will not be included in the refund amount. Products affected by custom order requests may also not be included in the refund amount. Due to the wide range of custom sizes, designs, and materials used in our products, there is a 25% restocking fee for all returned items, and the customer is responsible for return freight on a change-of-mind return. Freight damage and manufacturing defects are handled at no cost to you — we file the freight claim and repair or replace. Orders may be cancelled for a full refund before fabrication begins; once an order has entered production it can no longer be cancelled. GateFrames is not responsible for any defects in electrical equipment they resell, and any issues with such equipment must be addressed directly with their manufacturer. In rare cases, GateFrames reserves the right to cancel or refund an order for any reason.

The complete, canonical returns policy — including how to start a return, exchanges, and the refund timeline — lives on our Returns page.

Customer Reviews

You are always free to share your honest opinion of GateFrames and our products — positive or negative — here or anywhere else. Nothing in these terms prohibits, restricts, or penalizes an honest review, and we will never charge a fee or take action against you for one. By submitting a review you grant GateFrames a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display and reproduce it (you keep ownership of your words). We may decline to publish or may remove content only when it contains another person's personal information; is libelous, harassing, abusive, obscene, vulgar, or sexually explicit; is discriminatory; is unrelated to our products or services; or is clearly false or misleading. How reviews are collected, screened, and displayed is documented on our Review Guidelines page.

Warranty Information

Per-listing warranties: every listing publishes its own warranty length and statement on its detail page — lifetime, multi-year, or specified in long-form copy. The default below applies unless the listing overrides it. The exact warranty for an item is shown on its product page and as a subtle line above the price on every listing card.

Gates & Fencing (default): We offer a lifetime limited warranty on the structural integrity of all GateFrames gate and fence materials subject to normal wear and tear. All of our gates come with a long lasting, low maintenance powder coating, with a weather resistance anti-gassing primer undercoat, unless specified. All of our gates wooden components are protected with a transparent oil and wax unless specified. Do not lay gate/fence panels with wood down in the rain because stagnant water may eventually cause the wood to buckle.

Automation: GateFrames is not the manufacturer of any automation, or electrical products, sold and therefore is not responsible for any malfunctions that respective hardware may encounter. Any related issues must be dealt directly with the product's manufacturer.

Rust Disclaimer: Some minor weeping of rust from tiny crevices not reached by the powder coat finish is normal and may occur after rain. Such rust is not structurally damaging and may be controlled by the application of black or clear silicone caulk.

Organics Disclaimer: Our wood is not and cannot be perfect; small visual imperfections may be present. Some minor darkening of wooden components not reached by the transparent wood stain is normal and may occur after rain. These dark spots are not structurally damaging and may be controlled by sanding then reapplying of wood stain.
