About
The DoorBird A1081 I/O Door Controller moves the switching for your gate, door strike or garage indoors. It pairs with any DoorBird IP video door station over your network and gives you three relays that open things from the DoorBird app, a keypad code, an RFID fob or a scheduled event.
What's in the box
- A1081 I/O Door Controller
- 15 V DC power supply with US, EU, UK and AU plug adapters
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi antenna
- DIN-rail adapter
- Screw-terminal plug, 2 screws with wall plugs, drilling template
- Quick-start guide with the device's Digital Passport, installation manual
What you'll still need
- A DoorBird IP video door station on the same network, such as the D2101KV
- A gate operator input, electric strike or lock with its own power supply: the relays are dry contacts and don't power anything
- A network connection: a PoE switch or injector that supports 802.3af Mode A, or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with the included power supply
- Optional: door contacts or motion sensors for the two inputs
How it works
Relays
Three bistable (latching), potential-free relays, each rated 24 V AC/DC at 1 A. Set each one as normally open or normally closed, held open, held closed, or toggle.
Power cuts
The relays keep their last state when power drops.
Inputs
Two potential-free inputs for door contacts or motion sensors. They can trigger actions, including a push alert in the app.
Network
LAN or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi turns off automatically when a cable is plugged in.
Mounting
Wall, ceiling, cabinet or DIN rail. It's rated IP50, so keep it indoors or in a sealed enclosure.
Warranty
DoorBird covers the A1081 for 24 months from purchase. Use only DoorBird power supplies: a third-party supply voids the warranty.
How it compares
| Model | Relays | Screen, audio |
|---|---|---|
| A1081 | 3, 24 V / 1 A | None |
| A1101 | 3, 24 V / 1 A | 4" touch, 2-way |
Both have two inputs: sensor inputs on the A1081, storey-call inputs on the A1101. Choose the A1081 for switching in a cabinet; the A1101 adds a screen for answering calls. The data sheet, installation manual and warranty terms are in Documents below.

Frequently asked questions
What does the A1081 do?
It adds three network-controlled relays to a DoorBird system, so one door station can open up to three gates, doors or strikes. It mounts in a protected indoor spot and takes its commands from the door station over your network.
Does it work with the DoorBird D2101KV?
Yes. DoorBird lists it as compatible with all DoorBird IP video door stations, including the D2101KV. You add it in the door station's settings under Peripherals, then assign relays to keypad codes, RFID fobs or app buttons.
The D2101KV already has relays. Why add the A1081?
The D2101KV's two relays sit in the outdoor unit. DoorBird's installation manual warns that someone could break the door station open and short the lock wiring behind it, and recommends an indoor relay such as the A1081 for a more secure install. With the A1081, no lock wires run to the outside.
What can the relays switch?
Each of the three relays is a potential-free (dry) contact rated up to 24 V AC or DC at 1 A. That suits gate operator trigger inputs, electric strikes and most low-voltage lock controllers. The relays don't supply power, so the strike or lock needs its own power supply.
What happens during a power cut?
The relays are bistable (latching), so they keep their last state when the power drops. You can set each relay's default state in the DoorBird app.
What are the two inputs for?
They take potential-free contacts such as a door contact or a motion sensor. An input can trigger actions in the DoorBird system, including a push notification to your phone.
How is it powered?
Use the included 15 V DC power supply or PoE from a switch or injector that supports IEEE 802.3af Mode A. Don't connect both at once.
Does it need a network cable, or can it use Wi-Fi?
Either. It has an RJ45 LAN port and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with the included antenna. There's no 5 GHz Wi-Fi. When a cable is connected, Wi-Fi turns off automatically.
Where does it mount?
On a wall or ceiling with the included screws, inside a control cabinet, or on a DIN rail with the included adapter. It's rated IP50, not weatherproof, so it must be indoors or in a sealed enclosure.
How many A1081 controllers can I add?
DoorBird doesn't limit how many A1081 units a door station can use on the same network, so larger properties can add more than three relays.
Can I open the gate from my phone?
Yes. Every door or gate wired to the A1081 can be opened from the free DoorBird app, from home or away, as well as by keypad codes, RFID fobs or other configured events. Remote access has no monthly fee.
What warranty does it have?
DoorBird gives a 24-month warranty from the original purchase date. It is void if the unit is powered by a supply that didn't come from DoorBird.
