About
The DoorBird D2101KV is a stainless IP video door station for a gate, entrance or front door. A visitor presses the call button and your phone rings with live video in the free DoorBird app, so you can see them, talk and open the gate from anywhere.
PoE 802.3af Mode AIP65 / IK08SIP · RTSP · HTTP APINo monthly fee
Family and regular visitors can skip the call: the 12-key illuminated keypad takes PIN codes, and the 125 kHz RFID reader opens with a tap of a key fob.
What's in the box
- Main electrical unit with brushed stainless front panel
- Nameplate for the call button
- 1 RFID key fob
- Screwdriver for the security screws
- Quick-start guide with the device's Digital Passport, installation manual
- Small parts
What you'll still need
- A mounting housing (choose one): the D2101KV surface-mount housing or the D2101KV flush-mount housing
- PoE: a switch or injector that supports IEEE 802.3af Mode A, with shielded Cat.5 cable or better, up to 262 ft (80 m). Or the DoorBird 15 V power supply, though DoorBird recommends PoE for this series
- Broadband internet with at least 0.5 Mbps upload, and a phone with the DoorBird app for setup
- Recommended: the A1081 I/O Door Controller to switch the gate or strike from indoors
- Optional: the protective hood (surface mount only), the A1101 indoor station (black or white), extra RFID fobs
Only two old doorbell wires at the door? DoorBird's A1072 2-wire converter carries network and power over them.
Gates, strikes and security
Keypad and RFID
PIN codes on the illuminated keypad, or a tap of a 125 kHz key fob. One fob comes in the box.
Two latching relays
Rated 24 V AC/DC, 1 A, they hold their state through a power cut, plus an input for an indoor door-opener button. They can trigger a gate operator or an electric strike, but they don't power it.
Switch it indoors
DoorBird warns that a lock wired straight to an outdoor station could be forced by someone who breaks the station open, and recommends the A1081 I/O Door Controller mounted indoors instead.
Installation notes
- Mount the camera lens at least 57 in (145 cm) high; the fixed hemispheric lens covers visitors from about 20 in away.
- Avoid direct sunlight on the camera: sun damage isn't covered by the warranty.
- Built into a pillar or mailbox? DoorBird requires drainage and air circulation in the cavity, or the warranty is declined.
- Integrates through SIP, RTSP and an open HTTP API; DoorBird lists systems such as Control4, Crestron and Loxone.

Frequently asked questions
Is a mounting housing included?
No. DoorBird's data sheet lists the D2101KV as 'flush- or surface-mounted, mounting housing sold separately'. Choose the D2101KV surface-mount housing for a wall or pillar, or the flush-mount housing to recess it into the wall. Both are in our store.
Which housing should I choose?
Surface mount screws onto the wall or pillar with no cutting, and it's the only option that takes the protective hood. Flush mount recesses the station so only the front panel shows, and needs a wall cut-out of about 13.0 × 4.4 in (329 × 111 mm), 1.8 in (45 mm) deep. Both fit the D2101KV.
Is a power supply included?
No. The D2101KV runs on PoE (IEEE 802.3af Mode A) from a switch or injector over its network cable, which DoorBird recommends. It also has a 15 V DC input for the DoorBird 15 V power supply, sold separately.
Does it have Wi-Fi?
No. DoorBird's D21x series has no Wi-Fi module and runs over a network cable only. If you only have two old doorbell wires at the door, DoorBird's A1072 2-wire converter carries network and power over them.
Can it open my driveway gate?
Yes. It has two latching relays (24 V AC/DC, 1 A) that can trigger a gate operator's input or an electric strike; they don't supply power. For a more secure install, DoorBird recommends switching the gate from the A1081 I/O Door Controller mounted indoors, so no lock wiring runs to the outdoor unit.
Which RFID tags work?
125 kHz passive tags, EM4100/EM4102. It doesn't read 13.56 MHz cards or NFC. One key fob comes in the box, and it stores up to 500 tags.
How do the keypad codes work?
The 12-key illuminated keypad accepts individual PIN codes that you set up in the DoorBird app, each with its own schedule and action, such as opening a relay.
Are there monthly fees?
No subscription is required. Remote access through the DoorBird app is free and includes a history of the last 50 visitor and motion events. Cloud video recording is an optional paid extra.
Does it work with smart-home and phone systems?
It has built-in SIP, RTSP and an open HTTP API. DoorBird lists integrations with systems such as Control4, Crestron and Loxone. DoorBird says its Alexa, HomeKit and Google Home integrations are on hold.
Can I add an indoor screen?
Yes. The DoorBird A1101 indoor station works with the D2101KV. Up to eight phones or indoor stations can answer each call button.
Is it weatherproof?
It's rated IP65 and IK08, for −13 °F to 131 °F (−25 °C to 55 °C). Keep the camera out of direct sunlight, which can damage the image sensor and isn't covered by the warranty. The protective hood adds shelter on surface-mounted installs.
How high should it be mounted?
DoorBird recommends the camera lens at least 57 in (145 cm) off the ground. The ultra-wide lens isn't adjustable, and it covers a visitor standing about 20 in (50 cm) away.
How does it differ from the D2101V and fingerprint models?
The D2101V has RFID but no keypad, and the D2101FV Fingerprint 50 swaps the keypad for a fingerprint reader. Those models use different housings from the D2101KV.
What warranty does it have?
DoorBird gives 24 months from purchase against defects in materials and workmanship, with LEDs covered for 12 months. Damage from direct sunlight, modification or overvoltage is excluded.
