Questions & Answers
How do I measure for a fence panel?
How do I measure for a fence panel?
Measure the clear distance between the inside faces of the two posts the panel will run between (or where those posts will go) and enter it as Panel Width. The panel runs all the way to the posts, so there is no clearance to add or subtract. For a straight run, our 4 x 4 inch posts plus a 92 in panel put your posts exactly 8 ft on center. We double-check your numbers before any steel is cut.
Should I choose None, 1 Post or 2 Posts?
Should I choose None, 1 Post or 2 Posts?
Choose None to mount the panel to posts you already have or to a wall. Choose 2 Posts for a single stand-alone panel. For a run of several panels, order the first panel with 2 Posts and every additional panel with 1 Post, since neighboring panels share a post; 1 Post also suits a panel whose other end meets a driveway gate post or a wall. Every post is 4 x 4 inch steel with a cap.
How many panels and posts do I need for my fence?
How many panels and posts do I need for my fence?
Divide your run into panels of up to about 8 ft (92 in between posts keeps each panel in one welded piece). A straight run of N panels needs N + 1 posts, or N posts when one end meets a gate post. A corner is simply a shared post where two runs meet. Add every panel to your cart with its posts and the price updates as you go, or send us your layout and we will quote the whole project.
Will the fence match my GateFrames driveway gate?
Will the fence match my GateFrames driveway gate?
Yes. The fence is built exactly like our driveway gates, from the same 2 in steel frame, the same round pickets and spacing, the same ironwood and the same powder coat. Choose the same pickets, ironwood, top and color as your gate and the run lines up with it, picket for picket.
What is the difference between single, puppy and double pickets?
What is the difference between single, puppy and double pickets?
Single pickets run full height at 4 in on center (7.25 in with ironwood). Puppy pickets add a short in-between picket along the bottom rail to keep small pets in. Double pickets add a full-height picket between every pair for a denser, more private look. Frame only (None) leaves the panel open or ready for ironwood.
What does the ironwood option look like?
What does the ironwood option look like?
Ironwood boards attach to the face/back of the steel frame with self-tapping screws; the steel is thick enough for the screw threads to engage. Choose vertical or horizontal boards. Do It Yourself supplies the steel frame without wood boards, ready for boards you supply.
Can I get an arched or spear-point top?
Can I get an arched or spear-point top?
Yes. The Arch add-on gives each panel a 12 in rise across its top rail, highest at the middle; it needs a panel at least 8 ft 4 in wide. Finials add spear-point tips to the pickets. Choose both, either, or neither for a clean flat top.
How wide and tall can a fence panel be?
How wide and tall can a fence panel be?
Panels are built from 2 ft to 24 ft wide and 3 ft to 8 ft tall, to the inch. Each welded section is up to 94 in long so it fits a standard freight crate; wider panels ship as sections that bolt together on site, or in one piece up to 10 ft with the One-piece option. Need a size outside that range? Ask us for a quote.
How does the panel attach to the posts?
How does the panel attach to the posts?
Each panel is designed to mount between 4 x 4 inch steel posts: ours, posts you already have, or the posts of your GateFrames driveway gate. Tell us what the panel is mounting to and we will confirm the mounting details for your site before your order ships.
What materials and finish are used?
What materials and finish are used?
The frame and pickets are American steel tube, finished with a satin powder coat over an anti-gassing primer for a smooth, durable outdoor finish. Posts are 4 x 4 inch steel with a 0.120 in wall and caps. Standard colors are black and white, and any other powder-coat color is available by custom request.
Can I order fence panels together with a driveway gate?
Can I order fence panels together with a driveway gate?
Yes. Add your gate and fence panels to one cart and they are built together and ship in the same freight crate, so the fence rides with your gate.

Can I install the fence myself?
Many homeowners do. You set the posts in concrete, then mount the panels between them; a helper makes it easier. If you would rather not, a local fence or gate installer can do it in a day for most runs.

Made in the USAAmerican steelMatches our gatesBuilt to the inchDIY-friendly
Most metal fence comes in a few stock panel sizes, so the last panel never fits and the posts end up wherever the panels allow. A GateFrames fence panel is the other way around: you enter the space between your posts, and we build the steel panel to it. It is our driveway gate with no opening and no swing, so the panel runs all the way to the posts, and every picket, board and rail lines up with the gate beside it.
