Driveway Gate Prices 2026: What a Custom Steel Gate Costs by Size and Style
Data as of (2026-Q4) · refreshed quarterly · 226 of 312 configurations priced
What does a custom steel driveway gate cost? We priced 312 gate configurations — every width from 8 to 20 feet, four layouts and six infills — through our own live configurator. These are one manufacturer’s list prices (GateFrames, built in San Jose, California), not a survey of the market, and they exclude freight, posts and installation.
Key findings
- A 12 ft double swing gate, 6 ft tall with puppy pickets, lists at $3,172.
- Across all 226 priced configurations the median is $3,961, from $2,249 to $7,750 — a median of $317 per foot of opening.
- A single slide gate costs a median 16% more than a single swing gate of the same width and infill.
- Splitting a swing gate into two leaves costs a median 3% less than one leaf across the same opening.
- Horizontal ironwood infill adds a median 90% over a bare steel frame on a double swing gate.
- 86 combinations are not offered — mostly slide gates with picket spacing that fails the 2¼-inch opening rule for automated slide gates (ASTM F2200), and swing leaves past their size limits.

Method
Each configuration was priced by the GateFrames configurator — the same engine behind our product page and checkout — on . Every gate is 6 ft tall with a flat top and black powder coat; width, layout and infill vary. Prices are list prices before any temporary sale. Combinations the configurator refuses are counted and left unpriced, never estimated. Premiums are medians of matched pairs (same width and infill). No order or customer data is used.
