About

The Nice FM144 is an automatic gate lock for swing gate openers, sold under the Linear Pro Access and GTO names. It latches the gate every time it closes and releases just before the opener moves it, so a long or wind-loaded leaf is held by a real lock instead of only the arm.

Should I add one?

Nice recommends the FM144 for any gate leaf over 8 ft and for all high-wind areas. The opener's manual also suggests it to steady the leaf in the closed position. A keyed manual release lets you open it by hand.

Will it work with my opener?

  • Nice/Linear Pro PRO-SW3000XLS and 4000XLS: wires to the board's LOCK PWR terminals.
  • PRO-SW2000XLS: LOCK+ and LOCK− terminals.
  • Mighty Mule: many models are covered in the lock manual (MM371, MM372, MM571, MM572, MM560, MM562, MM272, MM262, MM362, MM462, MM360), some with a jumper or DIP-switch setting.
  • GTO/PRO boards made before 2006: use the lock control board included in the box.
  • Other brands aren't documented by Nice.

What's in the box

  • Lock with 20 ft of low-voltage wire
  • Lock receiver, clevis pin and locking cap
  • Lock control board with leads (only for pre-2006 boards)
  • Keys for the manual release, cable ties, wire connector and a lock decal

What you'll still need

  • Mounting bolts up to 5/16 in for your gate: carriage bolts for tube gates, U-bolts or saddles for chain link (the receiver needs carriage bolts)
  • A positive stop the gate closes firmly against (required on double gates)
  • A solid cross member on the gate to mount the lock
  • Optional: 433IH column-mount receiver for brick or masonry columns

Double gates

The lock goes on the master leaf and the receiver on the second leaf. The master must open first and close last, which is the factory setting on Nice XLS openers.

Push-to-open gates

On a gate that swings out, the lock mounts on the gate's outside face.

Keep the spare key

The keys are unique and Nice can't supply replacements. If both are lost, you'll need a locksmith.

Nice doesn't publish a holding-force rating, so we don't quote one. Nice warrants its gate accessories for 12 months from purchase with proof of purchase; labor and return shipping aren't covered.

Frequently asked questions

Will the FM144 work with my PRO-SW3000XLS or 4000XLS?

Yes. Both manuals list the automatic gate lock as an accessory, and it wires straight to the control board's LOCK PWR terminals. On the PRO-SW2000XLS it uses the LOCK+ and LOCK− terminals.

Does it work with Mighty Mule openers?

Nice's lock manual covers many Mighty Mule models, including the MM371, MM372, MM571, MM572, MM560, MM562, MM272, MM262, MM362, MM462 and MM360; some need a jumper or a DIP-switch setting described in the manual. Nice doesn't document other brands.

Does it need its own power supply?

No. Its 20 ft lead wires into the opener's control box. Only GTO/PRO boards made before 2006 need the small lock control board included in the box.

Is mounting hardware included?

No. Use bolts up to 5/16 in suited to your gate: carriage bolts on tube gates, U-bolts or saddles on chain link. The receiver must be fixed with carriage bolts, not U-bolts, so the lock seats properly.

Can I use it on double gates?

Yes. Put the lock on the master gate and the receiver on the second gate. The master must open first and close last, which is the factory setting on Nice XLS openers, and the second gate needs a positive stop.

My gate opens outward. Can I still use it?

Yes, but on a push-to-open gate the lock mounts on the outside face of the gate, and the post may need a pocket cut for the receiver.

What happens in a power outage?

The lock has a keyed manual release, so you can unlock the gate by hand and then disconnect the opener arm.

What if I lose the keys?

The keys are unique and Nice can't supply replacements, so keep the spare somewhere safe. If both are lost, you'll need a locksmith.

The lock hangs up or won't latch. What should I check?

Reset the opener's closed limit so the gate sits snug against its stop, spray the latch with silicone, and check alignment by holding the latch open with the key while you run the opener.

Will it fit a brick or masonry column?

Use Nice's optional 433IH column-mount lock receiver for brick columns or tight spaces.

What is the warranty?

12 months from purchase on Nice gate accessories, with proof of purchase. Labor and return shipping aren't covered.
