About
The Nice PRO-SW3000XLS is Nice's mid-size residential swing gate opener: one post-mounted arm opens a single leaf up to 16 ft and 650 lb. It runs from a 12V battery, so the gate keeps working through power outages.

Sold under Nice's Linear Pro Access line (formerly GTO/PRO). Everything for one gate is in the box, including the remote and receiver.
Will it fit my gate?
- Leaf size: 5 to 16 ft and up to 650 lb, both limits at once.
- Post: flat, at least 6 in square, set in concrete. Wood posts need a metal backing plate; masonry needs anchors.
- Swing: set up to pull open (into the property). A gate that swings out needs Nice's R4388 push-to-open bracket.
- Gate type: vinyl, aluminum, chain link, farm tube and wrought iron.
- Hinges: gates over 250 lb need ball-bearing hinges.
- Solid wood privacy gates: Nice's manual advises against them, because wind load can stop the arm.
- Pedestrian use: a separate walk-through gate is required.
- Commercial gates: Nice rates it for single-family residential gates. For an HOA, apartment or business entrance, choose a continuous-duty operator such as the LiftMaster CSW24UL.
What's in the box

Power, weather and control
Always on battery
The arm runs from the 12V battery and the transformer only keeps it charged, so an outage doesn't stop the gate until the battery runs down.
Solar
No outlet within 1,000 ft? Use a panel of at least 10 W instead of the transformer, never both. Nice's winter chart for one gate: 8 to 26 cycles a day on 10 W, 20 to 54 on 30 W, depending on your sun zone.
Cold weather
Rated −5°F to 160°F. Nice's FM316 battery heater helps in extreme cold but can't run on solar.
Daily duty
90 to 190 cycles a day on AC: about 90 at the maximum leaf, up to 190 with a 10 ft leaf. Soft start/stop and auto-close from 3 to 120 s.
Accessories
Dry-contact inputs for a keypad, push button, photo beams and vehicle exit sensors, plus an auxiliary relay (24V DC, 1 A) for a light or siren.
Second gate later
Add the PRO-SW3200XLS second arm on its 40 ft cable. A DIP switch sets it to open with the first gate or just after it.
How it compares
| Opener | Max leaf | Voltage |
|---|---|---|
| PRO-SW2000XLS | 500 lb / 16 ft | 12V DC |
| PRO-SW3000XLS | 650 lb / 16 ft | 12V DC |
| PRO-SW4000XLS | 1,000 lb / 20 ft | 12V DC |
For a double gate, the same arm comes as a kit with the PRO-SW3200XLS second arm.
Installation
Many owners install it themselves: it runs on low voltage from a plug-in transformer, so there's no high-voltage wiring at the gate. Follow the single-gate manual in Documents below, and keep controls at least 10 ft from the moving gate.

Frequently asked questions
What size gate will it handle?
One leaf from 5 to 16 ft long and up to 650 lb; both limits apply together. It opens up to 110° in 15–20 seconds, depending on the gate's weight.
What's in the box?
The arm with a 6 ft power cable, the control box, a 12 V 7 Ah battery, an 18 VAC plug-in transformer, a 318 MHz receiver on a 10 ft cable, one remote, post and gate brackets, a closed-position stop plate, mounting hardware, two warning signs and a support card.
Can I add a second gate later?
Yes. Add the PRO-SW3200XLS second arm, which comes with a 40 ft power cable and wires into this control board. A DIP switch chooses whether the second gate opens with the first or just after it.
Is a battery included?
Yes, one 12 V 7 Ah sealed battery. A second battery (RB500) can be added for more reserve and more solar cycles.
What happens when the power goes out?
The motor always runs from the 12 V battery; the transformer only keeps it charged. So the gate keeps working on battery during an outage until the charge runs down.
How many cycles a day can it do?
On the transformer, about 90 full cycles a day with a 16 ft, 650 lb gate and up to 190 with a light 5–10 ft gate. On 10 W of solar in winter, Nice rates 8, 16 or 26 cycles a day depending on your sun zone; 30 W raises that to 20, 44 or 54.
Can I connect both solar and the transformer for backup?
No. Using the transformer and a solar panel at the same time damages the control board; the power terminal takes one or the other. If AC is more than 1,000 ft away, use at least 10 W of solar instead of the transformer.
How far can the control box be from the outlet?
Up to 1,000 ft, using 16-gauge stranded direct-burial low-voltage wire (RB509, not included). Don't splice it, and don't use telephone or solid wire.
My gate opens outward. Will it work?
Yes, with Nice's R4388 push-to-open bracket (sold separately) and DIP switch 3 set to push-to-open. It ships set up for pull-to-open, where the gate swings into the property.
Will my GTO or Mighty Mule remotes work?
The receiver is 318 MHz and learns GTO/Nice digital remotes: the RB741, RB742 and RB743. Pair one by setting its DIP switches, then holding the remote button while you press LEARN RMT on the board. Range is 50–100 ft; mount the receiver high, with line of sight, and never on a metal post.
Do I need photo eyes or safety edges?
The manual lists photo beams (R4222) and edges as recommended, not included. UL 325 guidance calls for a second, external means of entrapment protection wherever a gate creates an entrapment zone, because the built-in sensing counts as only one. Plan on at least one sensor for most driveways.
Can I use it on a solid wood privacy gate?
Nice's manual advises against it: a solid gate catches the wind, and strong wind makes the operator sense an obstruction, stop and blow fuses. It's meant for vinyl, aluminum, chain link, farm tube and wrought iron gates.
What post do I need?
A flat post at least 6 in square, set in concrete; welding the bracket is best on steel. Wood posts need a metal backing plate, round wood posts must be at least 8 in and notched flat, and posts over 8 in need longer bolts.
Does it work in cold weather?
It's rated −5 °F to 160 °F. In extreme cold the manual recommends the FM316 battery heater (not solar compatible), and you may need to raise the stall force because hinges stiffen.
It sounds a continuous alarm. How do I stop it?
Two obstructions in a row trigger a 5-minute entrapment alarm. Clear it with a hard-wired control (push button or wired keypad) or by turning the control box power switch off and on; remotes won't clear it. Then check what the gate hit.
How do I open the gate by hand?
Turn the control box power switch off, then remove the hairpin clip, clevis pin and bushing at the mounts and lift the arm off. Unplugging the transformer doesn't stop the operator, because it runs on battery.
Can I add a keypad, exit sensor or light?
Yes. The board has dry-contact inputs for a keypad (F310), push button (RB101), photo beams (R4222) and vehicle exit sensors, plus an auxiliary relay (24 V DC, 1 A) that closes while the gate moves, for a light or siren.
What is the warranty?
24 months from purchase with proof of purchase, under Nice's DC gate operator limited warranty. Non-Nice batteries or transformers, surge or lightning damage, and removal or reinstallation labor aren't covered.
3000XLS or 4000XLS?
The PRO-SW3000XLS is rated 16 ft and 650 lb per leaf; the PRO-SW4000XLS is rated 20 ft and 1,000 lb. Both run on 12 V DC with the same battery and transformer. Choose the 4000XLS for longer or heavier leaves.
Is it for commercial gates?
No. Nice's manual rates it for single-family residential swing gates. For an HOA, apartment or business entrance, choose a continuous-duty commercial operator such as the LiftMaster CSW24UL.
