About

The All-O-Matic SL-90DC PRO is a continuous-duty 24V DC slide gate opener built in Van Nuys, California, for gates up to 1,600 lb or 50 ft. A ½ HP brushless motor does the work, two backup batteries keep it running through outages, and the PRO board adds an LCD menu, a 7-day timer and wireless pairing for bi-parting gates.

Power, weather and control

Power outages

About 150 cycles on a 1,000 lb gate, or up to two weeks of standby. Choose fail-safe (open before the battery runs out) or fail-secure (stay closed), or auto-open about 40 seconds after a power loss for fire access.

Solar

A built-in MPPT charger takes a 24V panel from 40 to 80 W. All-O-Matic estimates about 20 cycles a day with two 14Ah batteries, a receiver and two sensors. Panels and larger batteries aren't included.

Weather

Rated −40°F to 160°F. Batteries lose capacity in the cold, so size up for cold solar sites.

PRO control board

LCD menu for force, speed (6–12 in/s), auto-close (up to 120 s), partial open and diagnostics, plus a USB port for firmware updates. 7-day timer, cycle counter, and programmable auxiliary inputs and relay.

Bi-parting gates

Wireless or wired primary/secondary pairing links two operators. 12V and 24V accessory power (750 mA each) runs detectors and keypads.

Phone control

No built-in Wi-Fi: phone control needs a third-party controller such as the Nexx NXG-200.

Installation

All-O-Matic sells through professional gate dealers, and the job involves a concrete pad, welded chain brackets and a 20 A circuit in conduit. Experienced installers mount it front or rear of the gate. The brochure, manual and parts drawing are in Documents below.

*All-O-Matic's figures: 150 cycles on a 1,000 lb gate, 250 on a 600 lb gate. Ratings from All-O-Matic's and LiftMaster's product pages.

Frequently asked questions

What does 'PRO' mean on the SL-90DC PRO?

PRO means the ALL-BLDC PRO control board. It adds an LCD menu with on-board diagnostics, digital force and auto-close adjustment, wireless primary/secondary pairing, partial open, programmable aux inputs, a 7-day timer, a cycle counter and a USB port for firmware updates and diagnostic data. The motor, gearbox, 1,600 lb / 50 ft rating and dimensions are the same as the earlier SL-90DC.

What does 'FP' mean?

FP stands for foot pedal. The mechanical foot-pedal release is standard on the SL-90DC. To open by hand, step on the pedal, latch it to the side and push the gate. A kill switch stops the motor from running while the pedal is down, even with power on.

How heavy and long a gate can it move?

It is rated for slide gates up to 1,600 lb and 50 ft long. For heavier gates, All-O-Matic's SL-100DC PRO is rated to 2,000 lb and the SL-150DC PRO to 3,000–4,000 lb.

What happens when the power goes out?

Two 12 V 7Ah batteries are included. All-O-Matic rates them at about 150 cycles on a 1,000 lb gate and up to two weeks of standby. A DIP switch picks fail-safe (the gate opens before the battery runs flat) or fail-secure (it runs until the battery is low, then stays closed). An AUTO OPEN setting opens the gate about 40 seconds after a power loss, for fire-department requirements.

Can it run on solar?

Yes. The board has a SOLAR input with an MPPT regulator. It needs at least a 24 VDC, 40 W panel and can charge from up to 80 W. With two 14Ah batteries, a receiver and two monitored sensors, All-O-Matic estimates about 20 cycles a day. The panel and the larger batteries are not included, and systems over 80 W need an external charge controller.

Does it include safety sensors?

Yes, one AOM Red Eye photoelectric sensor comes with the SL-90DC PRO. UL 325 requires monitored protection for every entrapment zone, and the operator won't run automatically without it, so many driveways need another photo eye or an edge. The board takes normally-closed or 10K monitored devices from most brands.

Which third-party photo eyes or edges work with it?

Any monitored normally-closed device powered from the MON +24VDC terminal works, and the PRO board also accepts 10K-terminated devices. The manual has wiring for Enforcer, Allen-Bradley, Omron, EMX and Miller Edge models. AUX INPUT 1 and 2 can be set as extra MON_OPEN or MON_CLOSE inputs when one device per direction isn't enough.

Does it come with remotes or a built-in receiver?

No. It takes an external 3-wire receiver on the terminal strip outside the control box, or a 4-wire 12/24 VDC receiver. The radio power jumper ships set to 12 VDC, so move it to 24 VDC for receivers that need 24 V.

Can I control it from my phone?

There is no built-in Wi-Fi or app. The PRO board's wireless feature only links two operators (primary/secondary), and its USB port is for firmware and diagnostic data. Phone control needs a third-party controller wired to the board's inputs; All-O-Matic has a video on the Nexx NXG-200.

Will it work in extreme cold or heat?

The rated operating range is -40°F to 160°F. Batteries lose capacity in the cold, so solar or high-cycle sites in cold climates should use larger batteries, as the manual advises.

What power supply does the installation need?

115 or 230 VAC single phase, set with a voltage switch on the EMI board, on a dedicated 20 A circuit with a proper earth ground. Size the wire run using the current-draw and wire charts in the manual to avoid voltage drop.

How is it mounted?

It is pad-mounted on a concrete footing (about 24" x 24" in the manual drawing) with four 1/2" x 3-1/2" red-head anchors, set 4" above grade where possible. It can be front- or rear-mounted relative to the gate. A pedestal can be used instead of a pad; it is sold separately.

Can two SL-90DC PROs run a bi-parting gate?

Yes. The ALL-BLDC PRO supports wireless (8 channels) or hardwired primary/secondary linking, and accessories can connect to either operator. Leaf delay can be set for one direction.

How much accessory power does the board supply?

The PRO board supplies up to 750 mA at +12 VDC and 750 mA at +24 VDC for loop detectors, keypads and similar devices. If your accessories draw more, add a separate power supply.

What is the warranty, and is registration required?

7 years residential and 5 years commercial on circuitry, motor, gearbox and workmanship. Labor and shipping are the owner's cost. The registration card must be mailed within 30 days, or coverage drops to 1 year on parts only.

SL-90DC PRO or SL-45DC PRO?

The SL-45DC PRO is a smaller unit (800 lb / 30 ft) with a planetary gearbox, push-open release and a 5-year residential warranty, and it is listed for UL Classes I & II only. The SL-90DC PRO doubles the capacity (1,600 lb / 50 ft), adds the foot-pedal release, is listed for Classes I–IV and carries 7 years residential / 5 years commercial.

Can I lock the cover?

Padlock tabs come only with the SL-45DC. For the SL-90DC, a lock kit is sold separately.
