UL 325 Class I–IVContinuous dutymyQ-readySolar-ready7-yr residential warranty
Built for high-traffic entrances: apartment and HOA gates, commercial lots, industrial yards and large estates. It runs all day, keeps working through power cuts, and ships with the two monitored safety devices UL 325 requires, so there's nothing extra to buy before it can move a gate.
What's in the box
- CSL24UL operator: ¼ in powder-coated steel chassis, UV-resistant cover
- LMRRUL monitored retro-reflective photo eye (heated, 50 ft range)
- S505AL 5 ft monitored safety edge with aluminum channel
- Two 12V 7Ah batteries and battery tray
- 30 ft of #41 drive chain and eye-bolt kit
- Manual release keys, warning signs and documentation
What you'll still need
- A concrete pad (bolt pattern 10.30 × 10.40 in) or an MPEL post-mount plate
- Weld-on gate brackets for the chain, plus conduit and wiring to 120 or 230 V AC
- A gate that rolls freely and meets ASTM F2200
- Optional: extra photo eyes or edges (CPS-UN4, LMTBUL, LMWEKITU wireless edge kit), the 33Ah battery upgrade, a 210W solar kit, the HTR heater, loop detectors, remotes or keypads
Power, weather and smart control
Power outages
Up to 208 cycles or 24 days of standby on the included batteries. You choose what happens on low battery: open and stay open, or stay closed. An "AC fail open" setting suits fire-access entrances.
Solar
Runs on 24V solar up to 60 W with the K94-37236 harness and two to six SP10W12V panels. Expect roughly 22 cycles a day in a sunny zone on a 10 W panel. Heaters can't run on solar.
Cold weather
Rated to −4°F; add the HTR heater kit for −40°F. Cold weakens batteries, so plan on the 33Ah upgrade in freezing climates.
myQ app control
Add the LiftMaster 828LM Internet Gateway for app control, alerts and scheduling. The operator has no built-in Wi-Fi.
Remotes and keypads
The Security+ 2.0 radio stores up to 50 remotes or KPW250 keypads plus 2 keyless entries. 2022 and newer units use 315 MHz, so older tri-band remotes may not pair; see the radio compatibility chart in Documents.
Access control
Dry-contact open/close/stop, fire-department open, three plug-in loop detector ports, programmable auxiliary relays, timer-to-close (0–180 s), anti-tailgate, quick close and wireless dual-gate sync for bi-parting gates.
How it compares

| RSL12UL | 800 lb / 25 ft | 114 cycles |
| HDSL24UL | 3,000 lb / 75 ft | 45 cycles |
| SL3000UL (AC) | 2,000 lb / 50 ft | None |
| SL-45 DC PRO | 800 lb / 30 ft | 250 cycles* |
The CSL24UL and SL3000UL run 12 in/s, the RSL12UL 10 in/s, and the HDSL24UL 6–12 in/s.
Installation
- Pour the pad or mount the plate. Set the operator on a concrete pad (10.30 × 10.40 in bolt pattern) or an MPEL post-mount plate.
- Weld the chain brackets. Keep at least 4 in between the gate and the drive sprocket, and chain sag under 1 in per 10 ft.
- Run power and safety wiring. 120 or 230 V AC to the operator, then connect the included photo eye and safety edge.
- Pair and test. Pair your remotes and confirm the gate reverses on obstruction. Lubricate the chain with lithium spray only.
Many owners with welding and electrical experience install it themselves; otherwise a licensed gate installer is recommended. The operator reverses on obstruction, so a binding gate or worn wheels will stop it. The installation manual, data sheet and dimensioned drawing are in Documents below.

Frequently asked questions
Does the CSL24UL come with photo eyes and a safety edge?
Yes. Current CSL24UL units include an LMRRUL monitored retro-reflective photo eye and an S505AL 5 ft monitored safety edge. That's the minimum of two external monitored entrapment devices UL 325 requires, one for each direction of travel, so you can install without buying extra safety devices.
Why won't my new gate operator run, with three LEDs flashing?
The CSL24UL follows the 2018 UL 325 rule: it refuses to move the gate unless at least two external monitored entrapment devices are connected and working. Check that the included photo eye and edge are wired to the correct close/open inputs and aligned. Non-monitored photo eyes from older systems won't satisfy it.
How heavy and how long a gate can the CSL24UL move?
Up to 1,500 lb or 50 ft of gate, with at least 4 ft of travel. The gate must roll freely on its track and meet ASTM F2200. The operator's built-in reversing senses resistance, so a binding gate, bad wheels or debris will stop it long before the rating is reached.
What happens when the power goes out?
The two included 12V 7Ah batteries keep the gate running for up to 208 cycles, or up to 24 days on standby. You program what it does when the battery runs low: open and stay open, or stay closed. An AC-fail-open setting opens the gate about 15 seconds after power is lost, for fire access. There's also a manual release.
Can the CSL24UL run on solar power?
Yes. It accepts up to 60 W of 24V solar using the K94-37236 harness and two to six SP10W12V panels. Expect roughly 22 cycles a day in a sunny region on a 10 W panel. See the solar chart in Documents for your zone. Heaters and heated photo eyes shouldn't run on solar, and freezing climates need the 33Ah battery upgrade.
Is it strong enough for a commercial or apartment entrance?
Yes. It's rated for continuous duty and listed for UL 325 Classes I through IV, covering residential, commercial, industrial and restricted-access gates. It moves the gate at 12 in/s and supports loop detectors, access-control inputs, fire-department open and anti-tailgate for busy multi-family and commercial sites.
Can I control the gate from my phone with myQ?
Yes, with the LiftMaster 828LM Internet Gateway (sold separately). The operator has myQ built in but no Wi-Fi of its own; the gateway connects it to the myQ app for opening, closing, alerts and schedules. Property managers can use myQ Community with a CAPXL or CAPXLV access-control panel.
Which remotes and keypads work with the CSL24UL?
It stores up to 50 Security+ 2.0 remotes or KPW250 wireless keypads plus 2 keyless entries. Compatible remotes include the 892LT, 894LT, 893MAX and 890MAX, and it works with HomeLink version 4 or newer in vehicles. Units built in 2022 or later use 315 MHz only, so some older tri-band remotes won't pair.
Can I install it myself?
If you're comfortable welding and wiring 120 or 230 V AC, yes. You'll mount the operator on a concrete pad (10.30 × 10.40 in bolt pattern) or an MPEL post plate, weld on the chain brackets, run the chain with under 1 in of sag per 10 ft, and set the limits and force. The official installation manual is in Documents; otherwise hire a licensed gate installer.
What warranty does the CSL24UL have?
LiftMaster covers it for 7 years in residential use and 5 years in commercial use. Batteries and gate hardware aren't covered, and damage from an improper installation or a gate that doesn't meet ASTM F2200 is excluded. Plan to replace the backup batteries about every three years.
Can I reuse the non-monitored photo eyes from my old gate opener?
No. The CSL24UL only accepts LiftMaster monitored entrapment devices, so older non-monitored eyes won't satisfy it and the gate won't run. Use the included LMRRUL photo eye and S505AL edge, and add monitored devices such as the CPS-UN4 photo eye, the LMTBUL through-beam or the LMWEKITU wireless edge kit.
Can I push the gate open by hand without power?
Yes. The backdrive switch has a MANUAL position that lets the gate slide freely, and a SECURE position that resists pushing. There's also a keyed manual disconnect. On battery backup the gate keeps operating normally, so manual release is only needed when the batteries are fully depleted.
How fast does the gate open?
The CSL24UL moves the gate at a steady 12 inches per second, about 1 ft/s, with soft start and stop. A 20 ft opening takes roughly 20 seconds to fully open.
Will it work in freezing weather?
It's rated to −4°F out of the box, and to −40°F with LiftMaster's optional HTR heater kit, which is thermostat-controlled and needs AC power. Batteries lose capacity in the cold, so the 33Ah battery upgrade is recommended in freezing climates, and solar isn't recommended in far-northern regions.
Can it operate two gates that meet in the middle?
Yes. Two CSL24UL operators can be linked wirelessly or by wire to run a bi-parting gate pair together, with an adjustable delay so the leaves don't collide. You'll need a second operator for the second gate.
Does it work with keypads, card readers and vehicle loops?
Yes. It has dry-contact open, close and stop inputs for access-control systems and card readers, three plug-in ports for loop detectors (LOOPDETLM), a fire-department-open input, programmable auxiliary relays, timer-to-close from 0–180 seconds and anti-tailgate logic.
How is the CSL24UL mounted?
Bolt it to a concrete pad using the 10.30 × 10.40 in four-hole pattern, or to a post with LiftMaster's MPEL mounting plate. Keep at least 4 in between the gate and the output sprocket, which sits about 9 in above grade, and weld the chain brackets to the gate frame.
What is the difference between the CSL24UL and the RSL12UL?
The CSL24UL is the commercial model: 24V DC, continuous duty, 1,500 lb / 50 ft gates, 12 in/s and up to 208 battery cycles. The residential RSL12UL is 12V DC for 800 lb / 25 ft gates at 10 in/s, with about 114 battery cycles and a shorter warranty. Choose the CSL24UL for heavy, long or high-traffic gates.
What is the difference between the CSL24UL and CSL24ULWK?
They're the same operator. The CSL24ULWK kit adds LiftMaster's LMWEKITU wireless edge kit, which lets you connect safety edges on the moving gate without running wires to them. The standard CSL24UL already includes one photo eye and one wired 5 ft edge.
How often do the backup batteries need replacing?
LiftMaster recommends replacing the two 12V 7Ah batteries about every three years, or sooner in hot or cold climates. Three beeps when you send a command is the low-battery warning. Batteries aren't covered by the operator's warranty.
