About
The RB742 is the two-button remote for Linear Pro / GTO gate openers. Use one button per gate if you have two, or put the second button on your garage door with the RB709U-NB universal receiver.
It sends a 318 MHz fixed code set by 8 small switches inside, and the two buttons each send their own version of that code.
What's in the box
- RB742 two-button transmitter
- Keychain and visor clip
What you'll still need
- A Linear Pro / GTO gate opener on 318 MHz (see below)
- A small screwdriver to open the case and set the switches
- An A23S 12 V battery when the red light dims
- For a garage door: the RB709U-NB universal receiver, powered at 8–24 V AC/DC (from the garage opener or a plug-in transformer)
Will it work with my opener?
- Linear Pro PRO-SW2000XLS, 3000XLS and 4000XLS swing openers and the PRO-SL2000B slide opener list the RB742.
- Older GTO/PRO openers such as the SW-2500 and SL-1000/2000 list it for running more than one opener.
- Garage doors: the RB709U-NB receiver connects to the opener's push-button terminals. GTO names Chamberlain, Genie, Linear, Wayne Dalton, Martin and Amarr openers.
- Mighty Mule: Nice doesn't list the RB742 for Mighty Mule openers itself. Mighty Mule's FM134 two-button remote uses the same 8-switch code, and Nice pairs the FM134 and RB742 interchangeably with the RB709U-NB receiver.
- A garage opener without the RB709U-NB receiver.
- Rolling-code openers and other frequencies.
Matching an existing RB741
- Copy the first 8 switches. Set the RB742's switches to match the RB741's first 8.
- Check the 9th switch. If the RB741's 9th switch is +, the left button now opens that gate. If it's 0, the right button does. (If it's −, reset it and reprogram the opener.)
- Teach the other button. Pair it with a second opener or the RB709U-NB: hold the button, press LEARN CH1 on the receiver for 1–2 s until its red LED lights, then release.

Frequently asked questions
Can one RB742 run my gate and my garage door?
Yes, with the RB709U-NB universal receiver wired to the garage door opener's push-button terminals. The manufacturer says the receiver is required for use with garage door openers. Without it, the RB742 only talks to Linear Pro / GTO gate openers.
Are the two buttons coded separately?
No. Both buttons share one set of 8 switches. The left button sends that code as if a 9th switch were at +, and the right button as if it were at 0, so each button still triggers a different receiver.
How many DIP switches does it have?
Eight, each set to +, 0 or −. Don't set all eight to the same position. The single-button RB741 has nine.
How do I match it to my existing RB741?
Copy the RB741's first 8 switches onto the RB742. If the RB741's 9th switch is +, the left button matches it; if it's 0, the right button does. If the 9th switch is −, change it to + or 0 and reprogram the opener.
Which gate openers does it work with?
Linear Pro / GTO openers on 318 MHz. The PRO-SW2000XLS manual and PRO-SL2000B data sheet list the RB742, and older GTO/PRO openers such as the SW-2500 and SL-1000/2000 list it for running several openers.
Does it work with Mighty Mule openers?
Nice doesn't list the RB742 for Mighty Mule openers itself. Mighty Mule's FM134 two-button remote uses the same 8-switch code and is sold for its openers, so check your opener's manual or ask us before ordering for a Mighty Mule.
How do I pair it with the RB709U-NB garage receiver?
Hold the remote button you want to use. Press LEARN CH1 (or LEARN CH2) on the receiver for 1–2 seconds until its red LED lights, then release. When you test it, the LED blinks once for channel 1 and twice for channel 2.
Which garage door openers can the RB709U-NB run?
It connects like a wall push button, so it suits most garage door openers. GTO's data sheet names Chamberlain, Genie, Linear, Wayne Dalton, Martin and Amarr. It runs on 8–24 V AC/DC and has a 50–100 ft range.
Can it run two separate gates?
Yes. Nice describes it as programmable to control multiple gate openers, one per button.
What battery does it take, and what comes with it?
One A23S 12 V battery; replace it when the red light is dim or flickers. It comes with a keychain and a visor clip.
What's the warranty?
One year from purchase against defects in materials and workmanship, void if bought from an unauthorized online seller.
