About
This kit automates a double swing gate with Nice's mid-size residential arms: the PRO-SW3000XLS master arm and control box, plus the PRO-SW3200XLS second arm on a 40 ft cable. Both arms run from one 12V battery that keeps the gates working through power outages.

Sold under Nice's Linear Pro Access line (formerly GTO/PRO). Each leaf can be 5 to 16 ft long and up to 650 lb.
Will it fit my gates?
- Each leaf: 16 ft and 650 lb, both limits at once, and at least 5 ft long. That's per leaf, not a 1,300 lb total.
- Posts: flat, at least 6 in square, set in concrete. Wood posts need a metal backing plate; masonry needs anchors.
- Swing: set up to pull open (into the property). Gates that swing out need two R4388 push-to-open brackets.
- Gate type: vinyl, aluminum, chain link, farm tube and wrought iron.
- Solid wood privacy gates: Nice's manual advises against them, because wind load can stop the arms.
- Commercial gates: Nice rates it for single-family residential gates. For an HOA, apartment or business entrance, choose a continuous-duty operator such as the LiftMaster CSW24UL.
What's in the box
- PRO-SW3000XLS: master arm, control box, 12V 7Ah battery, 18 VAC plug-in transformer, 318 MHz receiver, one remote, post and gate brackets, closed-position stop plate, hardware, warning signs
- PRO-SW3200XLS: second arm with 40 ft power cable, post and gate brackets, stop plate, hardware, warning signs
What you'll still need
- 16 AWG direct-burial low-voltage wire from the transformer to the control box (up to 1,000 ft), and conduit for it and for the second-arm cable across the drive
- Photo beams (R4222) or edges wherever the gates create an entrapment zone
- A surge protector, plus a weatherproof cover if the transformer plugs into an outdoor outlet
- A separate pedestrian entrance
- Optional: FM123 solar panel, second RB500 battery, extra remotes, F310 keypad, exit sensor, FM144 automatic gate lock
Power, weather and control
Always on battery
Both arms run from the 12V battery; the transformer only keeps it charged. When the power fails, the gates keep working until the battery runs down.
Solar
No outlet within 1,000 ft? Use a panel of at least 10 W instead of the transformer, never both. Nice's winter chart for a dual gate shows 4 to 13 cycles a day on 10 W, depending on your sun zone. A bigger panel and a second battery help.
Cold weather
Rated −5°F to 160°F. Nice's FM316 battery heater helps in extreme cold but can't run on solar.
Gate sequencing
A DIP switch sets the second gate to open with the master or just after it. The master always closes last, which overlapping pairs and the FM144 lock need.
Remotes
The 318 MHz receiver learns GTO/Nice digital remotes: the RB741, RB742 and RB743. Range is 50–100 ft.
Daily duty
90 to 190 full cycles a day on the transformer, depending on gate size, swinging up to 110°. Auto-close is adjustable from 3 to 120 s.
How it compares
| Nice PRO-SW | Max leaf | 2nd arm |
|---|---|---|
| 3000XLS dual | 650 lb / 16 ft | 40 ft |
| 4000XLS dual | 1,000 lb / 20 ft | 50 ft |
| 3000XLS single | 650 lb / 16 ft | None |
| 4000XLS single | 1,000 lb / 20 ft | None |
2nd arm is the length of the second-arm cable. All four run on 12V DC with the same battery and transformer.
Installation
Many owners install this kit themselves: it runs on low voltage from a plug-in transformer, so no high-voltage wiring is needed at the gates. Follow the dual-gate manual in Documents below, and keep controls at least 10 ft from the moving gates. The kit ships in two cartons, about 74 lb together.

Frequently asked questions
Do I get everything for two gates?
Yes. The kit is both Nice SKUs: the PRO-SW3000XLS (master arm, control box, battery, transformer, receiver and remote) and the PRO-SW3200XLS second arm, which wires into the same control board over its 40 ft cable. The 3200XLS can't run a gate on its own.
What size gates will it handle?
Each leaf from 5 to 16 ft long and up to 650 lb, both limits at once. That's per leaf, not a 1,300 lb total, so a pair covers an opening up to 32 ft.
Can the two gates open one after the other?
Yes. A DIP switch sets the second gate to open with the master or just after it (the factory setting). The master gate always closes last, which is what an overlapping pair and the FM144 lock need.
Is a battery included?
Yes, one 12 V 7 Ah sealed battery in the master's control box runs both arms. A second battery (RB500) adds reserve and solar cycles.
What happens when the power goes out?
The motor always runs from the 12 V battery; the transformer only keeps it charged. So the gate keeps working on battery during an outage until the charge runs down.
How many cycles a day can it do?
On the transformer, 90 to 190 full cycles a day depending on gate size. On 10 W of solar in winter, Nice's dual chart shows 4, 8 or 13 cycles a day depending on your sun zone; a larger panel and a second battery raise that.
Can I connect both solar and the transformer for backup?
No. Using the transformer and a solar panel at the same time damages the control board; the power terminal takes one or the other. If AC is more than 1,000 ft away, use at least 10 W of solar instead of the transformer.
Can the transformer be plugged in outdoors?
It's an indoor Class II transformer, so an outdoor outlet needs a weatherproof cover. A surge protector is strongly recommended.
How far can the control box be from the outlet?
Up to 1,000 ft, using 16-gauge stranded direct-burial low-voltage wire (RB509, not included). Don't splice it, and don't use telephone or solid wire.
My gates open outward. Will it work?
Yes, with Nice's R4388 push-to-open brackets, one per arm, so order two. The kit ships set up for pull-to-open, where the gates swing into the property.
Will my GTO or Mighty Mule remotes work?
The receiver is 318 MHz and learns GTO/Nice digital remotes: the RB741, RB742 and RB743. Pair one by setting its DIP switches, then holding the remote button while you press LEARN RMT on the board. Range is 50–100 ft; mount the receiver high, with line of sight, and never on a metal post.
Do I need photo eyes or safety edges?
The manual lists photo beams (R4222) and edges as recommended, not included. UL 325 guidance calls for a second, external means of entrapment protection wherever a gate creates an entrapment zone, because the built-in sensing counts as only one. Plan on at least one sensor for most driveways.
Can I use it on a solid wood privacy gate?
Nice's manual advises against it: a solid gate catches the wind, and strong wind makes the operator sense an obstruction, stop and blow fuses. It's meant for vinyl, aluminum, chain link, farm tube and wrought iron gates.
What posts do I need?
Flat posts at least 6 in square, set in concrete, one for each arm. Wood posts need a metal backing plate, and posts over 8 in need longer bolts. The 40 ft second-arm cable runs across the drive in conduit and must never be spliced.
Does it work in cold weather?
It's rated −5 °F to 160 °F. In extreme cold the manual recommends the FM316 battery heater (not solar compatible), and you may need to raise the stall force because hinges stiffen.
How do I open the gate by hand?
Turn the control box power switch off, then remove the hairpin clip, clevis pin and bushing at the mounts and lift the arm off. Unplugging the transformer doesn't stop the operator, because it runs on battery.
What is the warranty?
24 months from purchase with proof of purchase, under Nice's DC gate operator limited warranty. Non-Nice batteries or transformers, surge or lightning damage, and removal or reinstallation labor aren't covered.
3000XLS or 4000XLS kit?
The PRO-SW3000XLS/3200XLS pair is rated 16 ft and 650 lb per leaf with a 40 ft second-arm cable. The PRO-SW4000XLS/4200XLS pair is rated 20 ft and 1,000 lb per leaf with a 50 ft cable. Both run on 12 V DC with the same battery and transformer.
Is it for commercial gates?
No. Nice's manual rates it for single-family residential swing gates. For an HOA, apartment or business entrance, choose a continuous-duty commercial operator such as the LiftMaster CSW24UL.
